Captain David Epperson Bio
Captain David Epperson, a native of Jackson County Missouri, is the Commander of the Investigations Division.
Captain Epperson was hired by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in 1996, earned a promotion to the rank of Sergeant in 2001, and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2011. Captain Epperson has served as the Field Training Supervisor, Crisis/Hostage Negotiation Team Leader, Crisis Intervention Supervisor as well as supervising squads within the Patrol and Investigations Divisions. Captain Epperson previously served as the Commander of the General Assignment Division (Courthouse /Warrant/Fugitive Unit) and Staff Services.
In addition to his other responsibilities, Captain Epperson currently serves as a Kansas City Metro Squad (Major Case) OIC and is a Security Specialist with the United States Department of Health and Human Services Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT), which is a team of experts activated during large scale disasters to assist in victim identification.
Prior to entering law enforcement, Captain Epperson served in the United States Army, spending three years as a Military Intelligence Operator, specializing in electronic warfare, at United States Army Field Station Kunia/Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Captain Epperson completed an Associate of Arts-Criminal Justice degree at Longview Community College as well as a Bachelor of General Studies Degree from the University of Missouri, focusing on Criminal Justice, Organizational Management, and Political Science. Captain Epperson is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
