In accordance with efforts to combat the COVID-19 virus, the following changes are being made at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office:

Courthouse Security Division

Effective March 24, 2020, Jackson County offices in the building at 415 E. 12th Street in Kansas City will be closed to the public for at least 30 days. This closure does not apply to the 16th Judicial Circuit Court – The Court remains open. Please use the west doors if you need to do business with the Circuit Court.

The Historic Truman Courthouse is also closed to the public for at least 30 days.

Sex Offender Unit

Sex offenders are still required to register by law. In accordance with efforts to combat the COVID-19 virus, effective March 24, 2020, Sex Offender registration in Jackson County will be done by calling 816-881-3849 or email sore@jacksongov.org until at least April 24, 2020.

Conceal Carry Permits

Effective March 24, 2020, Jackson County is only issuing Conceal Carry Permit renewals. The renewals will be processed by phone at 816-541-8017. The processing of all new permits is suspended until at least April 24, 2020.

Lobby Access

Effective March 24, 2020, the physical lobby of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will be closed for at least 30 days. The front desk area, just outside the lobby, will have a Sheriff’s Office employee present during regular business hours to answer questions.

Dispatch

Non-emergency calls may be alternatively handled by phone or, if in the event a Deputy is required, the dispatcher will obtain additional information and make notifications to the Deputy for appropriate handling.

Building trust and legitimacy, maintaining positive relationships/partnerships, and providing several lines of communication for the public to converse with law enforcement are essential elements for the success of our agency, and together, we will establish and maintain such.
