The Jackson County, MO Sheriff’s Office has been receiving reports that someone identifying themselves as “Sgt. Danny Barnes from Jackson County Sheriff’s Office” has been calling and threatening to arrest people if they do not pay outstanding warrants.
We would like to remind everyone that Jackson County, MO Sheriff’s Office does not solicit money over the phone, and this is a scam. Sometimes scams such as these will include spoofing a legitimate police agency phone number and using a real name of a law enforcement officer in an attempt to gain the trust of the victim.
If someone believes they are the victim of a scam, they should contact their local law enforcement agency.
